Dubai Maritime City begins first phase
Dubai Maritime City, the world’s largest and the most comprehensive maritime complex in the world, has announced that it has awarded the contract for building the first phase of infrastructure and roads in the city.
The construction phase marks one of the pivotal stages in the development of the iconic project.
The first phase of infrastructure development will focus on constructing a central bridge which will connect the Dubai Maritime City to the coastline. The bridge, expected to be complete by the first quarter of 2007, will act as a gateway for tenants and clients of the industrial zone.
The first phase will also encompass shifting of the services area, construction of quay walls and related infrastructure including road, street lighting as well as the work to be executed in the upper bridge.
In his comments, Mr. Amer Ali, project manager at Dubai Maritime City, said: ‘The launch of the first phase is a vital step and marks the rapid progress in the development of this dynamic development. We are committed to complete the project within the stipulated schedule and in order to achieve this target we are executing the project to our fullest potential.’
He added: ‘Dubai Maritime City is taking rapid strides to accomplish this unique concept which is set to far outstrip expectations. The work at the site is continuing at a brisk pace with the construction of the quaywalls going according to the schedule. Similarly, the placement of the concrete foundation is also going as per the plan, which will facilitate reverse docking of vessels. Besides, we have already completed the breakwater construction which was expected to be finished by the end of July.’
When completed, Dubai Maritime City will be the world’s biggest and the most comprehensive maritime complex spread across 216 hectares of man-made peninsula between Port Rashid and Dubai Dry Docks, and will be surrounded by the waters of the Arabian Gulf.
