Dubai Maritime City welcomes on board Dutch shipping firm Rederij Waterweg

Dubai Maritime City, the world’s largest and the most comprehensive maritime complex in the world, has announced that the Netherlands-based shipping major Rederij Waterweg B.V. will set up its regional base at the one-of-its-kind development.

Rederij Waterweg B.V. is the leading independent operator of workboats for coastal and inland waters across the globe. The total fleet of the company, including subsidiaries, consists of more than 50 workboats. The presence of the Dutch shipping major will provide a major boost to Dubai Maritime City development as it will offer a wide range of services to the maritime sector, including transportation, towage, sub-sea survey, etc.

In his comments, Mr. Amer Ali, Project Manager, Dubai Maritime City, said: ‘We are delighted to have Rederij Waterweg B.V. as part of the Dubai Maritime City family and their presence in the iconic development is a testament of the strategic importance of the project. Rederij Waterweg B.V. operates a large and modern fleet of workboats, working worldwide in numerous projects for the maritime sector and dredging industries and we are delighted that they have chosen Dubai Maritime City as their regional base.’

At this moment five of our workboats, that are already operational in the Arabian Gulf, will be managed from our base at Dubai Maritime City. Due to the large investments in land reclamation, port development and offshore energy projects in the Arabian Gulf, and the establishment of our regional base, we anticipate that our fleet will further expand in this region. ‘

He added: ‘Since our inception, the global maritime sector, regularly call upon us to employ one or more of our vessels or workboats for their projects. The extensive experience gained by Rederij Waterweg B.V. from their various projects worldwide will soon complement the league of the top companies that will set up base at the one-of-its-kind Dubai Maritime City development, becoming a crucial link with the rest of the world.

When completed, Dubai Maritime City will be the world’s biggest and the most comprehensive maritime complex spread across 216 hectares of man-made peninsula between Port Rashid and Dubai Dry Docks, and will be surrounded by the waters of the Arabian Gulf.
