Tuesday, September 5, 2006

Dubai Maritime City – the world’s largest and the most comprehensive maritime complex in the world – has announced the completion of reclamation work on-site, marking one of the pivotal stages in the construction of the iconic development.

Once complete, Dubai Maritime City will not only pave the way for a major impetus to the global maritime trade but also comprehensively redefine the international maritime community. With the conclusion of the reclamation work, real construction has commenced on the site with marked progress in the design themes aimed at bringing them to reality.

The reclamation contract at the dredging site was completed in August and the total volume reclaimed was 31.2 million cubic metres. With the reclamation complete however the design and construction phase can now commence.
Additionally, the conclusion of the reclamation works now ensures that the quay wall that will surround the full peninsula can be completed. With the quay wall in place, a final backfilling process will provide the finishing touches.

In his comments on the reclamation, Mr. Amer Ali, Project Manager, Dubai Maritime City, said: ‘We are proud to announce the completion of the site reclamation, which marks a major landmark in the project execution within the stipulated schedule. This phase is pivotal as the real development and design elements now take centre stage. The exciting development will provide a ‘step-change’ for the local and regional maritime industry and act as a beacon for maritime trade across the globe.’

He added: ‘Meticulous planning and research coupled with the most efficient methods is being undertaken to ensure that the development achieves its ambitious objectives and goals. We are currently constructing the support structures for the new shiplift facilities. Once complete, Dubai Maritime City will be able to give our existing and new members vastly improved services and the best facilities.’

When completed, Dubai Maritime City will be the world’s biggest and the most comprehensive maritime complex spread across 227 hectares of man-made peninsula between Port Rashid and Dubai Dry Docks, and will be surrounded by the waters of the Arabian Gulf.
