Half of the UAE National employees at Dubai World obtain the International Computer Driving Licence
Half of the UAE national employees working in different establishments and companies under Dubai World (DW) have so far obtained the International Computer Driving Licence ( ICDL ) under a programme sponsored by Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum IT Project.
The remaining half of Dubai World’s Emirati workforce will be ICDL qualified by the end of 2007 under a plan launched by the DW’s human resources management administration.
The plan implements the initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, to train and equip the national cadres in Dubai Government to global standards in information technology.
Jamal Abdalla Lootah, Head of HR Administration at DW, said that DW is fully committed to the initiative of H.H Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
‘From the very beginning, DW had set up five high-tech, well-equipped labs under the supervision of professional trainers who are highly experienced in the IT field,’ he said.
Lootah added that the ICDL has become an accredited global benchmark, which is gaining increased acceptance among many governments in the Middle East. ‘These governments have recommended the implementation of the program in all establishments to upgrade the different IT applications. Thus, anyone applying for a job has to have the ICDL within his portfolio.’
Lootah added that the positive response shown by participants contributed to a great deal in fulfilling this program. Some establishments and business units in DW were able to involve 80 to 90 per cent of their Emirati employees in this program, while the rest are expected to obtain the ICDL within the next few months.
