Dubai Maritime City makes progress in construction of industrial precinct
Dubai Maritime City – the world’s largest and the most comprehensive maritime complex in the world – has announced that it has completed the construction of the east and west side Quay walls for the ship lifts.
It has also announced that almost all of the base structure for Shiplifts has also been built. The completion of the east and west side Quay walls and the base structure marks one of the major milestones towards the construction of the industrial precinct, expected to enhance regional maritime trade from Dubai.
Approximately 10,000 concrete blocks have been cast for the Quay Wall. These are laid at an extraordinary pace of 40 to 45 blocks per day. The placing of the concrete foundation will allow for the beginning of the final phase.
The setting up of Eastern and Western Quay walls at Dubai Maritime City is one of the significant stages towards the relocation of Jadaf Dubai – one of the oldest ship repair yard in the Arabian Gulf – to Dubai Maritime City. The shift of Jadaf Dubai reflects the distinction of Dubai Maritime City as a prestigious location.
In his comments on the new construction, Mr. Amer Ali, Project Manager, Dubai Maritime City, said: ‘The construction phase of the Quay walls and the base structure for the shiplift facilities is one of the pivotal steps in our overall development, aimed at facilitating easy access, conformity and fulfillment of our industry requirements. We are in the midst of the finalizing the construction phases of the ship basin, and the basic infrastructure for the shiplift and ship transfer area as also other facets in the industrial precinct. The construction work on the other aspects of the City is continuing at a brisk pace.’
Work is currently under way in the excavation for the shiplift pits and the dry berth area. Mr. Ali added: ‘With the relocation of Jadaf Dubai to the Maritime City, we are confident that we will be able to offer the maritime community world-class services and the best facilities. The new purpose-built facilities will extend a unique opportunity to a number of companies currently operating at Jadaf Dubai to expand their operations.’
Dubai Maritime City is taking rapid strides to accomplish this unique concept which is set to far outstrip expectations.
When completed, Dubai Maritime City will be the world’s biggest and the most comprehensive maritime complex spread across 227 hectares of man-made peninsula between Port Rashid and Dubai Dry Docks, and will be surrounded by the waters of the Arabian Gulf.
