Building a bankable pool of national management talent is an integral part of Dubai World‘s long-term development strategy and will be pursued vigorously in all group business units.

Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman, Dubai World, reiterated this commitment during a visit to the Drydocks World Dubai on Thursday (July 26) to inspect progress of work in the construction of the world’s largest semi-submersible drilling rig hull.

Mr Bin Sulayem said: ‘Drydocks World Dubai is doing commendable work, particularly since the opening of its new ship-building facilities last year. The recent launch of Drydocks World to consolidate the maritime sector is another milestone for us. We believe that the present economic developments should be matched with administrative changes that help improve management, productivity and customer satisfaction.

‘Dubai World group as a whole is committed to long-term investment in building a bankable pool of national management talent that will support our expanding global activities. Such a proactive policy to promote national human resource assets is entirely in line with the strategic goals set for Dubai and the UAE by our leadership.’

Hamed Bin Lahej, COO, Drydocks World, said: ‘We will spare no effort in executing the projects undertaken with speed and high quality of service. Constantly enhancing our human resources, technical capabilities and the work environment are at the core of our operations. They have helped us keep pace with developments in the marine sector and to establish Dyrdocks World Dubai as a major international player in the industry.’

It is one of two that Drydocks World Dubai is building for the Norwegian multinational company. Both are H6e variant semi submersible drilling rigs, designed for deep sea drilling in harsh environment and arctic conditions.

The contract with Aker Kvaener includes the steel construction of the two hulls up to main deck, installation of piping systems, DP-systems, Mud Tanks and sophisticated hull and tank coating as well as extensive electric wiring work.

The major sections of the rig hulls, pontoons and columns have been built in separate units and assembled with bracings in the Drydocks World Dubai yards. The dimensions of the finished hull structures are: length 120 meters, width 77 meters and height 37.5 meters.

In total, each Hull will have a steel weight of 16,300 tons.

After completion of work at Drydocks World Dubai, the hulls will be transported to Aker Kvaerner Stord yard on the west coast of Norway, for installation of deck structure with drilling equipment, accommodation and final commissioning.

The hulls are being built to the highest DNV standards for offshore constructions, which require special steel qualities and strict welding requirements, for the entire steel construction.
