Fashion celebrated in true style at party of the year

Fashion has finally come of age in South Africa, and it goes without saying that the ever-innovative V&A Waterfront is once again leading the way with local and international brands the likes of which have never been seen locally. We can proudly say we are, without question, the ultimate fashion destination in the country, boasting brands such as Byblos, Democratic Republic, Lulu Tan Tan, Ed Hardy, Ana Sousa and Ben Sherman, among many, many others (see below for full list).

On Thursday 17 April, celebrities, media, business partners and long-time supporters came together in celebration of this one-of-a-kind environment where the best of local and international fashion trade side-by-side, providing something special for every taste and every pocket.

Says V&A Waterfront acting COO and representative of London & Regional, Arnold Meyer: “We have a huge amount of confidence in this world-class setting. The launch of this fashion mall, along with the new tenants that we have introduced to SA for the very first time, is taking the V&A Waterfront to a new and global level and we are extremely proud to have this development in our portfolio.”

James Wilson, CEO of Dubai World Africa Services, concurs. “I have to reiterate what I said when we first bought the V&A Waterfront: our vision has always been to transform the V&A Waterfront into the African Riviera and that’s exactly what we’re doing. But it’s not going to stop with the fashion extension – the level of development you can expect to see here over the next decade is nothing short of overwhelming.”

The event, which took place in two exquisite marquees on the rooftop of the new multi-storey parking garage (home to Aston Martin and Future Exotics) redefined all things sublime – from the effervescent Top Billing (SABC3) presenters, celebrities, models, a mouthwatering feast provided by Knights Catering, decadent chocolate creations courtesy of Lindt and after-party lounge and cocktails provided by Collisons. The glamorous affair was, without a doubt, the party of the year.

Fashion took centre stage as Cindy Nell, Minki van der Westhuizen, Tumisho Masha, Nico Panagio, Jeannie D, Aidan Bennetts, Janez Vermeiren, Kelly Parkhurst, Charlene Truter, Tansey Coetzee, Natalie Becker and Tammy-Anne Fortuin showcased the very best in local and international design in a beautifully artistic show produced by Karen Burt and the Planet Productions team. Top Billing’s Tumisho Masha was the charming master of ceremonies and Carl Isaacs and his team made sure our celebrities looked absolutely gorgeous.

The evening kicked off with colourful cocktails, after which guests moved into the first marquee for the fashion show, featuring the fabulous new V&A Waterfront fashion tenants. After the show guests were escorted to the after-party lounge where they indulged in a feast of canapés, crayfish, sushi, sour duck salad, decadent chocolate delights … the list is endless. Cocktails and bubbly flowed throughout the night and live music was provided by James Stewart and the Primi Live band.

And the evening ended in as grand a style as it began – as guests left the venue they were handed a gift of sought-after Prevage, the revolutionary anti-ageing treatment, valued at R1 150.
