Following his recent appointment to the Board of Directors of the International Association of Science Parks (IASP), Hamad Al Hashemi, Managing Director of TechnoPark, the science and technology facilitator of Economic Zones World, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the World Technopolis Association (WTA).

The appointment was made at the 6th WTA General Assembly held in Daejeon, Korea from October 9-11 2008, marking the 10th Anniversary of the WTA.

The 6th WTA General Assembly, attended by top TechnoPark officials, brought leaders of local governments, international organisations, universities, technology parks, and technology-based industries together to define and develop strategic visions and knowledge bases to support the development of science cities and nations.

Commenting on the recent appointment Al Hashemi said: “It is an honour and privilege to be selected to serve on the Board of Directors of the WTA. Earlier this year, TechnoPark was fortunate to host WTA’s 5th Techno-Mart, which reflects the confidence that the international body has in TechnoPark, our abilities, and in the city of Dubai. WTA provides us an excellent platform to interact with the global scientific community and to not only keep abreast of new developments but also to actively partake in charting the future of science cities.”

The General Assembly programmes were designed within the framework of “Towards Creative City: Retrospect and Prospect in Science City Development.” The event highlighted the culmination of the WTA’s work within the past ten years, as well as the commemoration of its 10th Anniversary.

Also held in connection with the General Assembly was the 2008 UNESCO – WTA International Training Workshop co-hosted by UNECO and WTA to promote and support technological development in developing nations.

The World Technopolis Association is a multilateral international organization created with aims to connect the advancement of science and technology with local development, to achieve a shared development through cooperation and exchanges among science cities.

As an international organization whose members are mainly local governments, the WTA is planning to launch variety of programs for the promoting of the regional development of the member cities as well as other science cities around the world.
