Sports and cultural events mark DP World’s national day celebrations
An exciting line-up of sports, cultural and social activities marked the National Day celebrations organised recently at Jebel Ali Free Zone by global marine terminal operator DP World’s Social and Sports Club.
The function was held in collaboration with the Employee Welfare Department of Imdaad, the Dubai World facility management service provider.
Senior officials, including Mohammed Sharaf, Chief Executive Officer of DP World, and Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of DP World – UAE region, attended the celebrations and encouraged the participants.
A fun and healthy competitive spirit turned the events into a celebration of great camaraderie among the participants. The ceremony opened at DP World staff quarters in Jebel Ali with the UAE national anthem sung enthusiastically by a group of employees’ children. Thousands of balloons bearing the colours of the national flag then filled the sky.
Competitions were held in swimming, body building, arm wrestling, weight-lifting, chess, tennis, basketball, marathon running, cycling, tug-of-war, billiards, volleyball, and football. Prizes and mementoes were distributed to winning teams and individuals.
Commenting on the celebrations, Mohammed Sharaf said:
“Human resources are the greatest asset of any company and a strong team spirit helps us work together to achieve our goals. By putting on such events, DP World is helping staff develop the spirit of teamwork, commitment and loyalty, which benefits both them and the company.”
Mohammed Al Muallem stressed the importance of sports, social and cultural activities in enhancing communication between DP World’s employees.
“This is particularly important for us because we are a global company with a huge workforce comprising many different nationalities with different customs, traditions and cultures. The harmony of these cultures and traditions within DP World is unique and an embodiment of the UAE itself,” he said.
Saeed Alqaizi, Director, Group Procurement, Contracts and General Administration, Dubai World, who is also the chairman of DP World’s Social and Sports Club, presented the awards and prizes to winners. He lauded the success of the event, which also showed the participants’ varied talents.
“The UAE National Day is an occasion to promote the importance of developing national spirit in the coming generations. This is also an occasion for social interaction and sharing of the spirit of working together. The Social and Sports Club has been organising such activities since 1995. It is one of the most efficient employees’ clubs in Dubai and highlights Dubai World’s and DP World’s commitment to employees’ welfare,” he said.
