The UAE Region of global marine terminal operator DP World has announced the collection of nearly AED 1 million from its Dubai based employees in support of the people of Gaza. The money will be used to purchase new equipment and supplies for use in hospitals that were damaged or destroyed during the recent conflict.

Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of DP World, UAE Region, presented a cheque to Mohammed Abdulla Al Haj Al Zaroni, Manager of the UAE Red Crescent Authority, Dubai Branch, at a ceremony held recently in the Jebel Ali Free Zone. Fahad Abdulrahman Bin Sultan from the UAE Red Crescent Humanitarian Logistic Centre, Jebel Ali, and Rashid Khamis Al Junibi from the Administrative and Financial Affairs Department also attended the function.

The initiative was supported by staff at all levels of the company and quickly evolved into a programme where employees chose to donate a day’s salary to the cause, with the final collection reaching AED 918,639.50. By the end of the collection period in late February, more than 6000 DP World, UAE Region staff members had contributed to the relief fund.

Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of DP World, UAE Region, said:
“We at DP World, UAE Region are glad to play our modest part in helping the people of Gaza. We hope this contribution will help with reconstruction of hospital facilities and medical supplies so badly needed, and thank the UAE Red Crescent Authority for the commendable role they play.

Mohammed Abdulla Al Haj Al Zaroni, Manager of the UAE Red Crescent Authority, Dubai Branch, said:
“It is extremely heartening to see voluntary contributions of this magnitude coming from the employees of a UAE company in support of the Palestinian people. DP World is well known for its generous Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. Their employees have responded in a time of need. Thank you DP World.”
