EZW’s Gazeley wins Hamburg’s prestigious Hanse Globe award for sustainability

Gazeley, member of Economic Zones World and a leading global provider of sustainable logistics space has won the Logistik-Initiative Hamburg’s prestigious Hanse Globe Award 2009 for G. Park Blue Planet Chatterley Valley.

G.Park Blue Planet Chatterley Valley, a 36,024 sq m development features a variety of renewable and sustainable features including on site renewable energy generation and energy saving fittings.

The award was presented by Prof. Dr. Peer Witten, Director of the Committee and spokesman of the Hamburg Logistics Initiative, to Jonathan Fenton-Jones, Global Procurement and Sustainability Vice President, Gazeley and Ingo Steves, Managing Director Gazeley-Germany, Austria and Switzerland, during a dinner reception at Hamburg City Hall. The reception was attended by more than 300 top dignitaries from the state’s economic and political sectors.

Logistik-Initiative Hamburg was established in 2006 by the Hamburg State Ministry for Economic and Labour Affairs in conjunction with leading companies and institutions to strengthen the city’s position as a top class logistics hub in Northern Europe. The Initiative promotes innovative sustainable projects and practices in the logistics sector. The Hanse Globe award recognises innovative sustainable logistics projects that benefit the environment and society as a whole. TNT and dm-drogerie markt have won the coveted award in 2007 and 2008 respectively for their sustainability initiatives.

In his welcome speech Senator Axel Gedaschko of the Hamburg Municipal Council said “Especially in times of economic uncertainty it is important for corporations not to lose sight of the long term picture. Gazeley under¬stands that corporations can only be economically successful in the long term when their development takes into account environmental and sustainability issues. We would like to express our congratulations to Gazeley for winning the Hanse Globe 2009”.

Jonathan Fenton-Jones, in his acceptance speech said: “We are extremely pleased to have been awarded with the Hanse Globe 2009 by a German panel; this underpins the fact that sustainability can only be successful on an international level.” Ingo Steves added: “This is a great achievement and proves that we are on the right track for our long-term project development.”

Gazeley’s G. Park Blue Planet has recently won several accoloades including the IAS Green Award, the Best Industrial Development Award at the UK Commercial Property Awards; Overall winner at the North Staffordshire Urban Design Awards; ‘Best Sustainable Development’ at the 2009 LEAF awards; and the best ‘New Build—Commercial’ award in Newcastle.
