New State of Art cranes for DP World Aden

DP World Aden has this weekend (June 4-5) received six new state-of-the-art rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes to further add to the customer service capability of the container terminal. The six new RTGs take to 12 the number of new cranes delivered to Aden this year, with two giant quay cranes ordered for delivery in the second half of next year.
In line with DP World’s commitment to training and development of its people, more than 20 local Yemeni crane operators have received specialised training to handle the equipment and a further 20 mechanics and electricians have attended training seminars to prepare to maintain the cranes.
DP World has also installed sophisticated IT port management systems, developed in-house, to further increase efficiency, conducting on-site training as part of the roll out.
Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, Middle East region, Captain Faisal Al Qahtani said:
“We are committed to investing in the safety and security of the terminal and our people, IT, equipment and human resources to make sure our customers have the best possible service. We have over-delivered on our original agreement, reflecting our confidence in the future of Aden and of Yemen. We have been pleased with the support we have received from the Yemeni Prime Minister and Minister of Transport along with other officials. We will continue to work to deliver a top quality facility that improves efficiency for Yemen’s exporters and importers.”
DP World Aden Managing Director Arif Bin Adhed added:
“With the commissioning of 12 new RTGs, DP World Aden grows from strength to strength, contributing to the growth of the local economy. We are also committed to the wider local community and we are an active contributor to that community. We are involved in two major Aden-based community initiatives, the Ras Morbat Clinic and Training Centre. The two projects are creating critical medical capacity, and helping match skills to available jobs in the local economy.”
The initiative includes underwriting two two-year training programmes for staff doctors in the area of paediatrics and ophthalmology at the University of Aden, with supplementary four-week annual training at Oasis Hospital in the UAE. Additional DP World funding goes towards construction and operation of the Ras Morbat Institute, training local residents in advanced woodwork and carpentry, along with the skills to run their own businesses.
