School supported by DP World’s Mumbai Terminal opens new building
DP World’s Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT) in Mumbai, India, has inaugurated a brand new building at a neighbourhood school it has supported for the past ten years giving more than 3500 local children attending the school even more opportunities to learn.
As part of its social development programme, NSICT adopted the Veer Wajekar ASC College and T.H. Wajekar School exactly ten years ago. The terminal committed to rebuild and refurbish the school and college – located in Phunde Village on the outskirts of Mumbai – with the aim of providing children in neighbouring villages with better education facilities and the opportunity to improve their lives and the standard of living for their families.
To mark the ten year anniversary, NSICT has sponsored the building of 25 new classrooms, a computer hall, library and staff offices. The building has been inaugurated by Anil Singh, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, Subcontinent.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Singh said: “We are very pleased and proud to be able to contribute to the community through our support of the school and college over the past decade. Our long association and continuing sponsorship we hope is making a very real difference, helping the children of our employees and children in the local community fulfil their dreams of a better life through quality education.”
Many improvements have been made over the ten years NSICT adopted the school and college. In the first phase of construction the main college building was completed, and the campus now boasts a Junior College and a Degree College offering graduate courses in the Arts, Science and Commerce. For younger students, the T.H. Wajekar School provides education from Class 5 to Class 10 for both boys and girls.
